Etiquette of the ballroom
September 8 - 11, 2025 • Town Hall • Eichstätt
Life at court still follows strict rules
that date back to Charles V, who used the Spanish court ceremonial
to subject not only the subjects but also the rulers
and the entire court life to very strict rules
and precisely prescribed procedures.
From the very beginning, the dance masters played an important role.
In many of their works since the Renaissance,
you can find not only dances and dance steps,
but also rules for life at court and behavior at balls.
We have known rules of etiquette since the Renaissance.
At first they were rules about things that are almost self-evident today,
which are mentioned in the relevant chapters of dance books,
later increasingly complex procedures that determined common interaction
and everyday life and over time filled entire books.
In order to remove the soporific, lecture-like effect of etiquette lessons,
they are now integrated into the workshop day and the dance lessons
are peppered with various exercises on bowing,
taking a seat and sitting, and the breaks are enlivened
with anecdotes and examples of behavior.
This means that it is not a separate course and no separate registration
is required for each dance course participant.
You will learn some of the rules of the Baroque and Rococo periods
in an entertaining and fun way.
And in joint exercises we will cultivate courtly interaction
with one another and thus develop a gallant game for the ball.

The etiquette rules are interspersed in a relaxed style
during the dance lessons.
