The departure from heavy theatrical brocades. Society of the 1750s wraps itself in printed cottons (indiennes), lightweight silks, and rustling taffeta. While the lady shines in the robe à la française with its characteristic back pleat, the gentleman represents in the precisely fitted habit à la française.

The Basis of Dance: Footwear & Parquet Suitability

Elegance that determines the step. The lady's curved Pompadour heel and the gentleman's stable block heel not only shape the walk, but are the fundamental prerequisite for historical dance steps. Richly ornamented decorative buckles (boucles) crown the instep.
